Birthday details, Part 1

This felt like the longest week ever, between finishing up our lease/preparing to move and tons of stuff going on at the office. Thankfully it's the weekend, and looking at pictures from Max's Big 2 makes me forget about all those other annoying, little things.

The night before, I picked up a dozen red balloons from the store. He just learned how to say "balloon" (sounds like "boon") and always makes sure to point out the red balloon on the pages of his favorite bedtime book, Goodnight, Moon. I snuck the balloons into his room overnight, so that when he woke the next morning, he would be surprised and delighted. Welllllll, the balloons may have had the reverse effect by pissing him off/scaring him... Oops.

We later went to see a production of – guess what – Goodnight, Moon! It was awesome! The green, green room and everything in it came to life so wondrously – a cow actually jumping over the moon in the picture, a boy bunny tossing and turning in bed, three little bears scooting around on chairs; why, there were even mittens hanging on a rack and kittens (cleverly incorporated as slippers on the Old Lady Rabbit's feet)!

They embellished the classic story a tad – throwing in a very flamboyant Tooth Fairy element to the mix. Besides that, I know Max understood that, somehow, this was his bedtime book. Afterwards, we could meet the cast. Max was intrigued but also a little wigged out, here you can see him giving Boy Bunny his famous judgmental look, that sideline glance, "I'm not so sure about you."

And there was of course cake-instead-of-dinner, as such every special occasion calls for! I baked it from scratch and it was a labor of love. More photo details coming soon.
