I learned about Style.ly when I attended a media breakfast with the company's head of marketing a couple weeks ago. Style.ly is like eBay––for fashion only––offering a more curated selection of new, lightly used, and vintage clothing from individual sellers and boutiques. Style.ly operates on the unique platform that it is integrated directly into Facebook, so you are conveniently tapped into Style.ly whenever you are logged into your social account. Which is always, right?
Style.ly features coteries on their homepage, which are targeted towards small groups of people with shared tastes. (Right about now, I'm digging "Beachy Keen" and trying to remember what warm weather feels like!) The other cool thing about Style.ly is that sellers list completely for free, unlike other similar fashion resale sites; the buyer gets charged a small percentage at time of checkout.
The only thing I would like more, is if the sellers' product photos were better quality––better styling, better lighting, translates into a more upscale looking product. Style.ly's target demographic is said to be between 18 and 24; I guess that's how I know I must be getting old––I've even become a photo styling snob!
On a side note, these kinds of events can be a bit over-the-top. For this one, I was picked up at home by a fancy car service, Uber Chicago, and dropped off at Perennial Virant. At these things, you end up surrounded by Chicago's best fashion bloggers––some of whom you follow online every day on your Google Reader––so it's pretty cool when you get to meet them IRL ("in real life"). Naturally, they're all sporting incredible designer labels. The conversations between bloggers usually go a bit like this:
"Oh. My. God. I LOVE your shoes!"
"These? I just picked up these Alexander Wang leopard booties yesterday."
"They look amazing!"
"They hurt like hell. But my feet should be okay by tomorrow."
