I've completely fallen off the blogosphere ever since we moved to Maryland exactly 30 days ago today. Things have been busy this fall––unpacking, making a home, a big hurricane, getting acquainted around town, seeing old friends in the city District . . . oh, and a little thing called Baby! For some reason, everything seems to take longer to accomplish when you're in a new environment. Go figure. So, what have I been up to lately?

Just a few quick snaps of our new home, beautiful Maryland in the fall! More on our journey over here next time. For now, happy Thanksgiving to you and yours!

Fall is my favorite season, ever since having moved out of South Florida, obviously. It's the most interesting sartorial season because you can really have some fun with layering, like this grey tweed vest over an oversized army green blouse from Zara. And the best thing about it? Mini skull buttons to feed my latest obsession! I wore this during my last week in Chi-town, to an eye appointment in the South Loop (you'll see the debut of my cool, new specs soon!), followed by a quick errand over at State and Wacker and an impromptu lunch at xoco with my two favorite boys.
The last few days before the move happened so fast. We tried our best to enjoy Max's first birthday, the city and our first home together, empty as it may be. Before we left Chicago, we had we said our goodbyes to all our dear friends who we have collected over the last five and a half years. It's a bit like curating jewels––pick only the best and keep them close to you; there's even a diamond in the rough sometimes.
We threw a "Farewell, FurFur" bash at the dog park in the neighborhood. She ran like a beast one last time with her favorite dog ever, Titus, who she grew up with. They chewed on each others' hind legs like it was the first time.
You might remember when Baby Max took his first few steps unassisted. He didn't do much of it after that first time, save for a few steps here and there, every now and then. But since he turned one he's been walking like a champ. Why, just last week at 12 months and 3 weeks, it's like the light bulb turned on inside Max and went, Ding! I have these two things called feet and they get me from Point A to Point B! Whoa.
And he's off, folks!
There was a time when I was certain the tower of moving boxes in our Chicago home wouldn't stop piling up. And then it did, when the movers came back after the weekend and loaded up all our stuff on the truck and we waved goodbye and then sat in an empty house for the next two days.
I've been wearing this skull-embroidered chambray shirt on repeat since I got it, and what could be more appropriate than a Halloween party to bring it out yet again? No costume required, just wear with black leather and opaque tights and jewel-toned shoes! (And maybe a feathery mask, if you feel so inclined.) Easy-peasy.
Any guesses on what little Maxwell is for Halloween this year? I'll give you a hint, it rhymes with "tushy."
