The last couple months have been a whirlwind for me and Max both. Some highlights:
1. We hosted good friends from Chicago here in our new home! It was overall such a blast and refreshing to go into the city with them and sightsee. Sometimes you just forget to push yourself to explore beyond your comfort zone until you have visitors you need to entertain! Fun times included: National Kite Festival down at the Washington Monument; raw oysters at BlackSalt; and random driving tour through the Capitol at night.
2. He weaned completely from breastfeeding at 17 months exactly. Before I had a baby, I never thought I would nurse. Then I had a baby, and I never thought I would nurse for so long. My 6 month goal turned into one year, and one year somehow turned into 17 months. Beginning at 14 months, I had gradually introduced the weaning process by dropping one feed––and subsequently, another feed once a month thereafter until we were just down to one bedtime feed at 17 months. I might have continued for another month, had Max not gotten sick with the flu and had such a hard time laying on his side and swallowing that he went on a nursing strike for three days and I decided it was best for him to just wean for good at this point. It was extremely sad for me because it felt like our incredibly special bond ended so suddenly, and when he finally did get better and wanted to get back to nursing, he seemed confused, sad, then mad at me.
3. But all this just means that he is growing up! Indeed, Mister Max had his first international trip (passport and all!) . . . to Mexico! He enjoyed the sapphire blue waters of Playa del Carmen, but was not a fan of the sand, and had hisfirst second taste of alcohol unwittingly.
4. I accepted a new job! WHOA! I made my return back to the corporate world just a few days after we returned from Mexico, and Max entered into daycare! Double WHOA!
5. It's been a new challenge to now play the role of working mom and having to rush Max to and from daycare, while dealing with a whole new slew of issues that seemed to develop from all these changes: behavioral and sleep, primarily.
p.s. There will be some cute pics of a certain chubs coming soon up on here . . .
