On motherhood

One of the most important things to me as a mother is exposing Max to enriching and varied environments and activities. I don't want to be one of those parents who plop their kid in front of the tv/iPad for hours, or she herself have her eyes glued to the iPad and not interacting with my baby. Being home all this time has given me an amazing opportunity to see my little boy pick up a new skill literally each day, the rate of which seemed to increase exponentially since he turned one! (Max's latest party trick is this one, which he saw a playmate do just one time, a week ago!)

I try to balance our time playing in the home, and out, so that he can experience other environments and other people. And he's like a sponge right now!! These days, he models what he sees––so, momma and dadda better watch themselves! I'm a big believer in unstructured "creative play" because I think it gives kids the chance to really explore. That said, I think it is healthy to give structure around the unstructured. Like providing consistency and keeping to a schedule of creative playtime/outings between naps. Etc. And, check out this fantastic website––it sends you daily emails with simple age-appropriate activities you can do with your child, like teaching him a fundamental concept using basic household items ("put it into the basket," "take it out of the basket"). It's a good reminder that a great activity doesn't necessarily have to involve fancy toys or a pricey class.
