Weekend vintaging

Ever since I left South Florida, my personal style has changed somewhat. It must have something to do with the lifestyle differences. Where I used to want all new, sleek, modern anything (clothes, furniture, housewares, accessories, etc.), I now find myself more frequently seeking out vintage pieces. Maybe it's part of the thrill in finding something old, imagining its past history and how it ended up here. Or maybe it's because vintage stuff just has a timeless quality that still works today.

This weekend I happened upon a vintage flea market, where I uncovered this lovely 1950s raw cowhide case, half-tucked away and forgotten under a table. It was originally used for holding record players, but its new use is to be my smart-looking carrying bag! Classic elegance and beautiful contrast stitching all packaged up into one gorgeous tan piece, it's reminiscent of the old European travel trunks you see in black and white films. 10 bucks. Done.

{ circa 1950s, slightly weathered }

P.S. I also walked away with 12 Mason jars (1 buck!) which I will use as vases and votive holders, and something else pretty cool that I can't show you yet because it's for The Fella's birthday. Three months away, I don't know if I can keep it under wraps!

  1. Love this! What a great find-- the shape is very reminiscent of the Louis Vuitton Speedy.

  2. By gosh, you're right! Too bad it's not actually a Louis! :)
