Baby Max turned 9 months about two weeks ago. We went to his 9 month wellness checkup, where the pediatrician weighed and measured him (10th percentile at 17lbs 13oz and 10th percentile at 27.5in), then asked a series of questions about his development:
Does he sit up unsupported? Yes.
Does he pull himself to sit position? No.
Does he crawl? No.
Does he have a pincer grasp yet? I don't know.
Does he eat finger foods yet? No.
Does he eat meat yet? Um, no. I was waiting for this appointment to ask if it was okay.
I felt like I was being a bit judged for not feeding him enough, or something, as she made some scribbles in his chart. Just a bit.
Then literally two days later, I woke up to find Max sitting up in his crib!! First, I was surprised to see his little head above the crib rail. Then, I was creeped out by how he slooowly turned his head to look at me and give me this sly, all-knowing smile. You know, like the ones that creepy kids in horror movies all have.
Anyway.
Once Max figured out how to pull himself to sitting position, he has seriously been acing all the developmental milestones!
He has teeth! Max cut two bottom teeth when we were visiting Florida at the end of June. He was about 8.5 months old at the time.
He crawls! It is a part scoot, part army-crawl, with one leg stuck under and the other dragging behind. But hey, man, he still gets where he needs to. It's funny, because for the longest time, I was convinced Max would never crawl, that he would go straight to walking like his momma. Up until just before 9 months, Max still screamed whenever I put him on his tummy. In fact, he had figured out how to get his toys that were slightly out of reach without ever needing to crawl––he simply used whatever he already had in his hand to scoop up the other toy and bring it within reach. Some might say that is developmentally lazy, I call it brilliant!
He stands! At 9 months and two weeks, I saw Max push himself up off a toy bin turned upside down. I expected him to just sorta "lean" on it, but instead, he straightened up, let go, and just started slowly swiveling his head as if in awe of what he could do! I wanted to rush over and save him, but he continued to stay standing even when he wavered ever so slightly! He did finally fall over (on the back of his head) after a whole minute long of standing!
He walks! Okay, this milestone has not really been met. He can walk rather well with my assistance. I suppose this isn't very extraordinary, however I love seeing just how focused, determined and most of all, satisfied, he looks as he pulls me across the room with very deliberate steps!
And then there's the little things.
He sings like Mariah! In this video, Max is singing to the wooden cat statues.

He says "Oh, yea!" Call me crazy, but I am convinced his first words were "Oh, yea!"... or perhaps it is just his happy, melodic cooing that sounds like it!
Good job Max!! You're a big boy now! :-)
