{ dim sum, first meal in New York }
Every time we see my family, food is involved, whether it's large, homecooked meals or dining out. Lots and lots of it. It's a hazard that automatically comes with being from a Chinese family: I'm always well-overfed, just the way I like it. While in New York, you can bet we spent quality time in the best Chinatown on this side of the pond, having lavish meals of Cantonese dim sum, Shanghai dumplings and noodles, or Szechuan.
We also had a few delicious, non-Chinese meals, like Mediterranean cuisine at new favorite Balaboosta in SoHo and, of course, Blue Ribbon––it's my go-to place every time we stay in the West Village! Dinners were always early (we're talking "Early Bird" early) and rushed because Baby Max is very punctual when it comes to his bedtime (a blessing and a curse sometimes) but my family is always so understanding and accommodating! Here are a few snaps of some particularly delectable meals . . .
{ Max and Grandpa }
{ walnut chicken }
{ perfect peking duck }
{ spicy fish soup at Old Sichuan, yes, yes, it was! }
{ smoked tea duck at Old Sichuan - this was the perfect smoky, spiced flavor I have ever tasted }
{ Max and his Auntie, Old Sichuan }
{ shrimp and bacon hash, poached eggs at Blue Ribbon }
{ smoked salmon and poached eggs over fresh baked bread, Blue Ribbon }
{ The Fella with Aunt Mary }
{ Balaboosta, a relaxed Mediterranean restaurant in SoHo.
It feels like someone's home. }
{ the most amazing Moroccan Cazuela Fish Stew at Balaboosta-
quite possibly better than Moroccan food I had in Morocco! }
{ strawberry-watermelon gazpacho at Balaboosta - amazing!!! }
{ "Gimme! }
