Green with envy

A week ago, the night before we headed to New York, The Fella and I attended Oscar Night America at the Gene Siskel Film Center. Officially, it was a working event as I was covering it for PinkMemo. Unofficially, it was a Date Night with The Fella, who acted as my photographer under my media pass, hehe. It was a cool event––my first time walking a red carpet and posing in front of a step-and-repeat. Also, it was pretty neat viewing a high-definition broadcast of the Oscars in a plush theater––way more posh than from my couch at home!

I wore a vintage dress from Atelier––a 1960s emerald green and peacock blue brocade number reminiscent of MadMen days––and Nars Red Lizard lippy that were perfect for this Hollywood event.

If the amazing necklace I am wearing looks like it was made for my dress... that's because it was! It is on loan from local jewelry designer Alex Agudo of Monsieur Pamplemousse––Alex designed and created this beautiful bauble with vintage clasp, just for me, when he saw my dress. Now that's the mark of a truly talented designer!

Everything about Alex's jewelry designs exude craftsmanship and artisan quality. I love that the green agate beads have a solid weight to them, a sign of excellent quality. In between each agate bead, Alex threaded tiny Japanese seed beads as spacers. He explained that this technique allows the beads to flow like water when you lay the necklace down. Try this with any beaded costume jewelry pieces, and you'll see immediately what I mean. And the sparkly pave beads add just the right touch of sparkle perfect for a glamorous Hollywood feel! I also got to preview his new Spring/Summer '12 collection, which I will be posting about when things get back to normal around here! In the meantime, if you're interested in seeing more, you can contact Alex here.
