The weather here in Chicago was already blustery and cold when Baby Max arrived late fall. Faced with the impending winter, and struggling to walk the dog every day with a newborn in bitter conditions, I needed a (warm) footwear solution I could literally walk into and that did not require laces, buckles, or zippers. For me, it was just not usually possible to get shoes on first before strapping on baby––do you know how difficult it is to bend down when you have a baby attached to you??? Enter my beloved, red Hunter Wellies.
I call these "standup boots" because they stand up without any support needed, which is key to being hands-free. They also have a flat, rubber sole for extra grip and come in a tall height (great for an extra layer of insulation!). I also make sure to always leave the accompanying fleece bootwarmers already inserted in the boots, with the extra long cuff folded over, so I won't need to bend over to pull up socks. Easy and convenient, I can simply step right into (and out of) my Wellies in a snap, all while having a screaming/fussing newborn unhappily strapped to my chest and a hyper dog running circles around me. It's just one less thing to do! When the weather warms up, I plan to slip into comfy loafers for everyday wear. Am still on the hunt for a perfect pair, but really, any of these blush-colored beauties could make my feet happy.
