Reflections on friendships

Now that the dust has settled from the whirlwind of activity that was the past few weeks, I've had time to reflect on the importance of friendships. I suspect that I will find myself missing my friends who've moved (or are moving) most when certain repeat traditions roll around this year and I am alone.

Such as July 4th. Last year we spent this festive holiday celebrating with the group on L & A's rooftop patio. There was a lovely barbecue going, tons and tons of homemade sides, witty banter, and a wedding ring mishap (H dropped his ring between the wooden planks and under the patio – oops!). Not to worry, it was saved and H wouldn't have to sleep on the couch. Let's just say there were lots of tools involved, head-scratching, and tsk tsks from onlookers, but all that was lost was found!

Or, like the Renegade Art Fair on Division Street last summer, where we ooh'd and aah'd over handmade crafts, baby outfits, and even the occasional bizarre-o object like the hand-sewn, penis-shaped pillows. (There's just no other way to more politely put it, folks.)

Or, next month, when Book Club would have taken place, and we would have been curled up on comfy couches and gnoshing on book-themed tidbits. A little bit of book discussion, a lot of giggles and gossip.
