The weekend, succinctly

It was a lovely domestic weekend, involving lots of cooking, gardening, and spending time with girlfriends. (Conveniently, I didn't get around to cleaning.)

There was a healthy breakfast of eggs, arugula and tomato salad, and fresh mangoes – thank god they're back in season! I've been missing them.

A rowdy group of Puerto Rican-pride celebrants hooting and hollering, adorned with souped-up wheels illegally parked along a busy stretch of North Ave. I bet the new Mercedes-Benz dealership they were obstructing was just *loving* this!

Some stoop-sitting with FurFur.

Lots of gardening! I had considered reading up on a Gardening 101 book, because yes, I am that ignorant about gardening. My idea of gardening is buying a pot from Home Depot, already planted with flowers, and putting it on my doorstep. This time, however, The Fella insisted that I get down and dirty, making our own arrangements. We planted loads of beautiful flowers within our tiny, concrete front stoop. When you live in the city and don't have any green space, you have to get creative with planter boxes and varying-sized buckets and pots. Hopefully these beauties will survive our lack of prior plant-caring success.

But what I'm really excited about is our new HERB GARDEN! Mostly because I can eat these, and I really like to eat.

And apparently, this is what a trip to Babies 'R Us with your girlfriends gets ya...

{ Not pictured - a minor meltdown when the pizza dough wouldn't form, but eventually resulted in a delicious homemade sausage and arugula pie for dinner one night. }
