Matisse: radical invention, 1913-1917

Today The Fella and I evoked our inner artists and headed to The Art Institute of Chicago to check out the new exhibit, Matisse: Radical Invention, 1913-1917. We spent a leisurely Sunday afternoon exploring an impressive collection of his works during this period which were deconstructed, heavily reworked, and emphasized by shades of blacks and grays in his pursuit of "methods of modern construction" – a direct antithesis of Matisse's earlier works that are rich with color and soft lines.

One of a handful of pictures I took before museum security finally told me photography wasn't actually allowed in the Matisse exhibit. (It IS permitted in the rest of the museum, can you see why I wouldn't have known?)
