So. I recently fell off the wagon (again, but this time for about two weeks) regarding my Food Revolution goals to eat breakfast consistently. You may have noticed that I have not posted a weekly update in some time now.
While I was in Russia this past week and a half, you can bet I made it a point to eat something every morning, before a hardy day of touristing it up in town. I ate like the Russians do, which consisted of real sustenance: hard-boiled eggs, mortadella/ham/cheese on toasted bread, mini croissants filled with custard, oatmeal, yogurt... my favorite Russian breakfast was a handsome helping of macaroni noodles with a sprinkling of fresh grated cheese, chopped cucumber-tomato-dill relish, and mini sausages!
I must say, Europeans sure know how to start off the day. In Spain, we ate these prefectly toasted, little baguette sandwiches called montaditos, filled with ham, a tomato-garlic "salsa", and always a drizzle of olive oil. In France, we always had fresh-baked croissants with homemade jam, or simple crepes with Nutella. Mmm. Just thinking about my previous breakfasts there make me positively happy!
I'm trying to bring this hearty (and quite healthy) eating habit back with me to America. I think part of the reason I failed to keep up with my breakfast Food Revolution is because I just wasn't that interested in my crappy cereal or boring slice of toast. You can't imagine what a world of difference it makes to start off the day with some fresh vegetables and lean meat. Sure it requires a tad more advance preparation, but so far, I've been successful the first two days back at work!

You are so good! I can barely grab a NutriGrain bar on my way out the door most mornings.
ReplyDeleteIt's only been a week of eating consistently like this, HAHAHA. I'm sure I'll fall off the wagon again next week.
