Stella Summer Music Series

It was the perfect evening for a rooftop. (As perfect as it can be in 88 degree weather, anyway.)

Blue skies, puffs of clouds, a thankless breeze every now and then, The Fella and I kicked back to the acoustic strains of Matthew Santos. Chicago magazine threw a Stella Summer Music Series event tonight at Citizen Rooftop in River North. It's one of my favorite rooftops – god knows Chicagoans sure love their rooftops – because it's completely non-pretentious and laid-back, a rooftop that has a neighborhood feel. Citizen's not the usual downtown Chicago rooftop scene, in fact devoted regulars are usually those who live or work nearby, including myself.

{ a perfect sky }

We spent the evening after work enjoying complimentary Stellas (mostly The Fella enjoyed them, I just sipped), perusing copies of Chicago magazine, while listening to Matthew Santos live. It felt like we were just hanging out on a good friend's backyard deck, nothing fancy but just right. A great Wednesday evening.

P.S. If you don't know who Matthew Santos is, you really need to check him out soon. He's absolutely phenomenal.
