I first stumbled upon this gem of a DIY handmade goods fair in 2007, when we first moved to the city and I was walking the dog on a snowy day. Fast forward three years later, still snowing, and the Renegade has become for me an eagerly-anticipated holiday tradition for finding handmade gifts from mostly local artists and a baked goodie or two...
There are multiple rooms with vendors, but this is by far my favorite in the whole field house for its lovely architecture and decorative mural. And far in the back, on the stage, a little craft station to make your own felted ornament!
{ I added a red felted hat to my snowman, after deciding he looked a bit cold }
I bought a handful of these cleverly crotcheted pins with quirky, sometimes rude sayings to give my coworkers. Among my favorites are: "Your blog sucks" (for Kevin, who is managing our company blog), "Fuck you, I'm an artist!" (for Theo, one of our designers), and "I hate beards" (for John, who is growing a beard). Did I forget to tell you I'm working on being ironic?
This year's Renegade was domestic coupledom, while last year's I had my closest girlfriends over for brunch beforehand, then we hit up the fair together. It was then that I bought the FurFur ornament. Come on, look again, don't you think she looks like Bambi, even down to the wreath?
